Seeking Expressions of Interest - Clare 250th Legacy Project

The Municipality of Clare is proudly celebrating the 250th anniversary of its foundation in 2018. Our vision is to create a “must-see” Big Clam outdoor attraction that will last beyond 2018.

Why a clam? Bar clams found on the tidal flats of St. Mary’s Bay were credited with keeping the original Acadian settlers from starvation during their first winter – and for decades that followed. 250 years later, these bar clams are still plentiful at low tide in St. Mary’s Bay. The proposed location for the Clam will be Parc Joseph et Marie Dugas, Belliveau Cove – and in clear view on the webcam. The vision for the clam must include:

• A fun and interactive component. Possible examples: seating/slide for children, green energy element, science theme …

• A creative design that leads to a cost-effective construction that is weather-resistant, durable with minimal maintenance

The submitting artist/designer/engineer will provide a 1 to 2 page letter summarizing your basic concept and your qualifications and experience with similar projects. The Clare 250th legacy committee will review, evaluate and select the successful expression(s) of interest. Please note that one or two expressions of interest may be selected for the next phase. Compensation will be provided in the detailed conceptual phase, which will include design drawings, cost-to-build specifications and budget; site selection and estimate of annual maintenance costs. All Expressions of Interest must be received by Friday, March 23, 2018.
