The Honourable Bernadette Jordan
Minister of Fisheries, Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard
House of Commons
Ottawa, Ontario K1A 0A6

Dear Minister Jordan,

On behalf of Council for the Municipality of the District of Clare, I am writing to you regarding the events that are rapidly unfolding in Nova Scotia’s St. Mary’s Bay. We are in constant communication with our federal and provincial counterparts and are keeping a close eye on the situation.

Clare is a peaceful community. However, tensions are quickly escalating, and we are gravely concerned for the safety of all fishers involved and for the safety of our residents.

As this is a federal issue, we call upon the Department of Fisheries and Oceans as well as the Royal Canadian Mounted Police to increase enforcement efforts in order to ensure the safety of the public both on land and on the water.

Given the seriousness of this matter, your prompt attention would be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

Ronnie LeBlanc
Warden
