GENERAL INFORMATION AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

  • The work environment of the Groundskeeper Assistant is outdoors, on various municipal grounds and parks, including sports fields, playgrounds, and other outdoor public spaces.
  • The working environment can be noisy due to the equipment used (e.g. a lawnmower).
  • Start date: April 27, 2026.
  • End Date: October 30, 2026
  • Reports to the Groundskeeper.
  • The work schedule for the Assistant Groundskeeper will be primarily a traditional 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. schedule, Monday to Friday, with occasional evening and/or weekend hours. The time of work (schedule) varies due to the weather and work sites.
  • Hourly wage of $18.56.

ABOUT THE POSITION:

The Assistant Groundskeeper will be responsible for assisting in the maintenance of municipal grounds and parks, including sports fields and playgrounds; general maintenance and cleaning of park grounds and restrooms; operation of lawnmowers and small landscaping equipment; and general maintenance duties at various sites. Here are some of the duties:

  • Maintenance of municipal grounds at various locations in the Municipality of Clare.
  • Grass cutting and pruning to requirements and specifications.
  • Weekly fencing and soil checks in designated areas.
  • Empty garbage cans and disposing of waste properly.
  • Maintenance of sports fields, including grass cutting, aeration and fertilization, painting of field lines and dredging.
  • Maintenance and cleaning as required, e.g. restocking toilets, coordinating pumping and cleaning of portable toilets.
  • Support the daily tasks of the Groundskeeper.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma preferred.
  • 1 to 2 years’ related experience preferred (groundskeeping, maintenance or similar tasks).
  • Experience using power tools and equipment preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Bilingualism is an asset.
  • Ability to work with limited supervision and under general direction; ability to handle sensitive matters with good judgment, flexibility, and discretion.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Self-motivated and work well as part of a team.
