La CJA has been a staple in Clare for many years.

Many fun, fond memories of days spent exploring, adventuring, learning, challenging, and making friends at the CJA are in the hearts of Clare residents. The Municipality of Clare recognizes the importance and significance of keeping that service in our community, for generations to come!

In trying to keep the spirit of our beloved day camp alive, this year we're embracing a new approach for the CJA day camp. Due to challenges in staffing, which are essential to maintain a safe and engaging environment, we’re introducing a new format for the 2024 CJA day camp.

We're excited to explore new ways to deliver enjoyable and meaningful experiences to our campers, even if it looks a bit different from past years. This year, we are introducing "L'esprit de la CJA”, which will include the following elements: 

  • One full day of day camp per week and,
  • 2-3 half days of camp per week.

This year’s day camp format is an interim solution, and we will make every effort possible to host a full CJA day camp next summer! That said, we hope to keep L’esprit de la CJA alive this year and provide the best service we can for the community we love. See you outside!

Why the change?

We know change is never easy and that this news may be disappointing (we’re sad about it too!). Unfortunately, we did not receive enough applicants to safely run the camp. We cannot operate unless we can ensure all children will be adequately cared for and supported during their time with us. This pivot will allow us to provide as much children-oriented programming as possible with the resources we have.

What about next year?

It is our hope that after one year of L’esprit de la CJA, we will have the staff and resources to return to full weeks of memories and fun next year, and every year thereafter!

Do you have more details on how L’esprit de la CJA will work?

Yes! As we mentioned above, L’esprit de la CJA will be different than the weekly CJA day camp. Instead, L’esprit de la CJA will offer a few different types of activities for children this summer, including:

1 full day of camp per week – What you should know:

  • Drop off your kid(s) in the morning and pick them up at the end of the day. This full day of camp will feature a theme day and lots of fun activities!
  • Full camp days will be held weekly on Wednesdays.
  • Cost: 25$
  • Suitable for kids aged 5-12.
  • Snacks and lunch will be provided.
  • Most full days of camp will be held at the yurts on the Université Sainte-Anne campus. A few camp days will be offered in other locations too!
  • All the details you need including location, drop off / pick up times, theme of the day / week, etc. will be specified in our new recreation software (launching soon!) during the last week of May.
  • Registration will be opening in June.
  • Available spots will be limited, and you will need to register your child for each day of day camp they want to attend.

2-3 half days of camp per week – What you should know:

  • Half days of camp will take place at various locations around Clare in the mornings or in the afternoons, during which we will host a bunch of fun activities for youth!
  • Half days of camp will be held on different days of the week.
  • Cost: 10$
  • Suitable for kids aged 5-12.
  • Lunch will not be provided; snacks are always available!
  • Details including locations, drop off / pick up times, planned activities, theme of the day / week, etc. will be available in our new recreation software (launching soon!) during the last week of May.
  • Registration will be opening in June.
  • Available spots will be limited, and you will need to register your child for each half day of day camp they want to attend.

Children’s corners – What you should know:

  • In addition to L’esprit de la CJA, Clare Recreation Services is pleased to be offering children’s corners at many Clare Recreation events this summer!
  • Children’s corners are a new concept we are introducing to have a designated space for youth activities during Clare Recreation events.
  • Registration is not required for children to participate in children’s corners during Clare Recreation events.
  • Children’s corners will be available at no additional cost.
Where will L’esprit de la CJA take place?

We will still be using the yurts on the Université Sainte-Anne campus for many activities, but we will also host activities at different locations around Clare! Locations will be specified in the registration system.

Will there be a cost?

Yes, the pricing for L’esprit de la CJA will be as follows:

  • Full day camp: $25 (includes a lunch and snacks)
  • Half day camp: $10 (includes snacks)
  • Children’s corners: free (available during Clare Recreation events)
When will L’esprit de la CJA take place?

Our day camp programming will be available during the weeks of July 2 – August 19, 2024. Please note there will be no L’esprit de la CJA during the Congrès mondial acadien (August 10-18, 2024).
