The Municipality of the District of Clare is currently accepting expressions of interest from residents wishing to serve on its EDIA Committee.
Five positions are available. Positions are volunteer based. If you’re passionate about community involvement and helping make Clare a welcoming and inclusive place, this is a wonderful opportunity to get involved!
About the EDIA Committee
Created under the Dismantling Racism and Hate Act and the Accessibility Act, the Committee plays an important role in removing barriers faced by people from equity-seeking groups in the programs, services, initiatives, and facilities of the Municipality. Working with the municipal team, the Committee shall:
- Advise Council on the implementation, monitoring, evaluation and learning from both its EDIA plan and Accessibility plan, in accordance with the Dismantling Racism and Hate Act and the Accessibility Act.
- Review and update the EDIA plan and the Accessibility plan every three years, in accordance with the Accessibility Act.
- Consult the community on actions related to equity, diversity, inclusion and accessibility in the Municipality.
- Advise Council on the impact of municipal policies, programs and services on equity-seeking groups.
- Review and monitor existing and proposed municipal regulations to promote the full participation of equity-seeking groups, in accordance with the law.
- Identify and advise on actions to be taken to ensure equity, diversity, inclusion and accessibility of existing and proposed municipal services and facilities.
- Support the organization of community projects, programs and events related to EDIA within the Municipality.
- Advise and formulate recommendations on strategies to achieve the objectives of the Municipality's EDIA and Accessibility plans.
- Receive and review information from Council and its committees, and formulate recommendations, as requested.
- Contribute to monitoring compliance with directives and recommendations from federal and provincial governments.
The EDIA Committee shall have no less than six members. At least half of these members must be people with disabilities or representatives of organizations committed to people with disabilities, in accordance with the Accessibility Act. In addition, it must include individuals from identified equity-seeking groups or representatives of organizations committed to people from these groups, in accordance with the Municipality’s EDIA plan.
Meetings are typically held once per quarter (every 3 months) and are accessible online.
