Little Brook (NS) – August 3, 2023: Wednesday, July 26, 2023, marked the grand opening of Clare Share Fridge Communautaire.

An evening of celebration marked the realization of this superb initiative, which required months of volunteer work behind the scenes to make possible.

It all began in December 2022, when a group of community volunteers served the community's first annual Christmas meal. Thanks to the support of volunteers, local businesses and organizations, and the Municipality of Clare, the event served around 200 plates of food free of charge to local residents. This highlighted a need in our community and prompted volunteers to conceptualize the Clare Share Fridge Communautaire initiative.

Food insecurity is a troubling reality for many residents of the Municipality of Clare. However, thanks to this initiative, many people in need will be relieved to know that they can always count on Clare Share Fridge Communautaire as an accessible resource for their nutritional needs.

The "take what you need, leave what you can" community fridge supports the Clare Food Bank, which distributes a monthly box of food to approximately 60 local families. The community fridge, meanwhile, offers greater flexibility as it is always open and allows those in need to choose which food products they wish to take with them. In addition, the community fridge is stocked with a variety of items such as fresh produce, frozen foods, non-perishables, and other necessities such as hygiene products.

Clare Share Fridge Communautaire operates largely thanks to the support of the community, and the Municipality of Clare is proud to contribute to this initiative. That said, businesses, organizations and individuals are invited to contribute to the community fridge. It's truly remarkable to see this initiative come to fruition, which would have been a difficult, if not impossible, task without the support of the entire community. We would like to thank, congratulate, and recognize all those involved in making the Clare Share Fridge Communautaire a reality.
